Mumbai: The Indian film industry's biggest stars like Dilip Kumar, Yash Chopra, Shah Rukh Khan and to southern superstar Rajinikanth to high profile politicians like Praful Patel flocked to the big bash organised on Wednesday to usher in the living legend Amitabh Bachchan's 70th birthday.

The red carpet was rolled out for as many as 800 guests at the Reliance Media Work, Film City, Goregaon. Amitabh, dressed in a black velvet outfit, came with his family wife Jaya Bachchan, son Abhishek, daughter Shweta, daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai and he too walked the red carpet with live orchestra playing hit numbers from his films.

Big B, who turns 70 on Thursday, told media, "Thanks for coming", while Aishwarya, flaunting a cream long dress with golden detailed work all over, told reporters, "We are so happy that we are all on Thursday celebrating his birthday.

 Thank you so much."If yesteryear veterans like Hema Malini, Saira Banu, Waheeda Rehman, Vinod Khanna, Prem Chopra, Kader Khan, Pran, Zeenat Aman, Jeetendra and Asha Parekh came to wish Big B, his co-star of many films like "Deewar" Shashi Kumar was wheeled in to join the revelries.

Also Neetu and Rishi Kapoor, who have worked with Big B, were seen walking the red carpet. Aishwarya and Abhishek played a perfect host and escorted 89-year old legend Dilip Kumar inside the venue.

Big B's one time competitor Vinod Khanna, who rarely speaks to the media, was in a generous mood and said: "I wish him all the happiness and good luck."From the current lot stars like Deepika Padukone, Parineeti Chopra, Anurag Kashyap and his wife Kalki Koechlin, Sonakshi Sinha, Vidya Balan, John Abraham and Arshad Warsi came to wish Big B.

Shabana Azmi called him an "iconic figure" and added: "I got an opportunity to work with him. He is my favourite."Madhuri wished him all the "happiness and success", while Juhi said: "I respect him, admire him and I had a great time working with him."Vidya, who played his mom in "Paa", said that "he is an inspiration not only for actors but for everyone".

Mumbai: Actress Katrina Kaif, who has teamed up with Yash Chopra for her forthcoming film "Jab Tak Hai Jaan", is disheartened that the filmmaker has announced his retirement.
  
"I think he shouldn't have retired. It is sad that he has announced his retirement. He is a legend and I don't think anyone can match him. I feel I am honoured to be part of his last film," she told reporters from Chicago.
  
"He is an amazing person. He has a great sense of emotion and passion for cinema. It was great working with him," she said.
  
Recollecting an incident while she was shooting for the film, Katrina said that there was a scene which she couldn't get right despite her repeated attempts.
  
"Everyone from Shah Rukh to Aditya Chopra tried to explain to me about how to get it right. But it was Yashji who understood that I was nervous and hence couldn't get it right. So he started cracking jokes, since he understood what I was going through. That was an amazing moment. He is a very sharp person."
  
She said it was at the premiere of "Veer Zaara" when she watched a scene where Shah Rukh picks up Priety Zinta on a bridge, that she wished she could get to do a Yash Chopra film.
  
"I was aspiring to do a film with him and it eventually happened. I am happy and honoured."
  
Katrina said she felt intimidated by Shah Rukh Khan while working in the film.
  
"I was initially intimidated by him. I had to find a way to connect with him as an actor. Once that awkwardness was gone, I felt he is very caring. He gave me certain tips for a romantic film, like I should look into the eyes whenever we were together for a scene," she said

Mumbai: Bollywood celebrities have praised veteran actress Sridevi on her return to Bollywood after 15 years with film 'English Vinglish' and wished her good luck.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who came to the premiere held here last night alongwith wife Jaya, said, "I am very happy to have worked with her earlier. My association has been very good and I wish her all the luck."

Actress Madhuri Dixit, who also came for the premiere, said, "I wish her all the best." On the occasion, Shilpa Shetty heaped praise on the actress saying, "I am a big fan of Sridevi. She looks very nice in the movie. I am looking forward to see it."

Sridevi graced the premiere with her family members including Boney Kapoor, daughters Jhanvi and Khushi, brother-in-law and actor Anil Kapoor and others.

"I am not at all nervous. I am just excited...feel like I am on top of the world. It is a special day. I thank all of them for the love and affection," an excited Sridevi told reporters.

Anil Kapoor, who worked with Sridevi in films like 'Mr India', 'Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja', 'Lamhe' and 'Judaai', was appreciative of the 49-year-old actress."It is a big day for all of us and the entire family. We all are very excited. The whole family is looking forward to it. It is a celebration time for us. It is a big thing that she is making a comeback after 15 years, her achievements are tremendous," Anil said.

Jaipur: The famous paan (betel leaves) prepared in the Rajasthan capital are likely to add royal flavour to Bollywood couple Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor's wedding, which will reportedly take place in Mumbai October 16.

Annu Mobile Paan Bhandar, a shop in the city, is said to have been approached by an event management company to supply a wide variety of paans for the wedding.

"We have been approached by an event management company to supply paans. We will be sending a few samples to them in a day or two and if everything goes fine, we have to send 500 special paans of about a dozen different qualities and flavours for the wedding," Annu Mobile Paan Bhandar's owner Annu Daswani, said.

"It is an immense pride for us to supply paans during the most awaited wedding of this year," added Daswani. Daswani also said that the paans with different flavours, including mango, orange, chocolate, strawberry and pineapple, will be wrapped up in gold and silver warq (thin foils).

"Special packets would be prepared for packaging the paans that will make them look attractive when they will be served to the guests at the wedding," said Daswani.

Each packet will have only five paans and the average cost of each paan is between Rs.150 to Rs.175, without transportation charges.

Mumbai: Here’s some buzz about Ayan Mukerji’s next film. After it was reported that Ayan’s film has overshot its schedule, there is another piece of news that his crew is getting extremely restless. It seems the director has managed to drive his cast and crew up the wall with his habit of calling for too many retakes.

The film has even seen several changes in its locations. After shooting extensively across Manali, Rajasthan and even Mumbai, the cast and crew are now all set to travel to France soon to shoot for the next sequence. Our sources say that about 40 per cent of the film still remains to be shot.
A source states, “A few days ago, Ayan made Ranbir and Deepika repeat the same scene for 11 times over an hour and half. Both Dippy and RK were very irritated, as both of them are known to be very spontaneous actors.” Looks like Ayan’s troubles are far from over.

Veteran actor AK Hangal passes away at 95

MUMBAI: Distinguished character actor A K Hangal, who was best known for his roles in films like 'Namak Haram', 'Sholay' and 'Shaukeen', passed away at a hospital here this morning following a brief illness.

He was 98. "He passed away at 9 AM at Asha Parekh Hospital...He was not keeping well for quite some time," Hangal's son Vijay told PTI.

"He was on life support initially but the doctors decided to take him off the ventilator since his condition wasn't improving," he said.

The veteran was admitted to the hospital in suburban Santa Cruz on August 16 after he slipped and fell down in his bathroom on August 13, fracturing his right femur (thigh) bone.


Hangal, who has been in and out of hospital since the last few years, was suffering from several ailments including high blood pressure and kidney dysfunction.

Doctors attending to him initially felt that he needed to be operated on for the fracture but considering his advanced age they dropped the idea.

"My father was a spirited man....He kept fighting every time till his last breath," Vijay said, adding the funeral will be held at 1 PM.

The actor was facing severe financial hardship before several celebrities from the film industry chipped in with funds after news of his deteriorating health broke out last year.

Hangal had participated in the freedom struggle before turning to acting.

He played roles in films like "Sholay", "Shaukeen", "Namak Haram", "Aaina", "Avtaar", "Arjun", "Aandhi", "Kora Kagaz", "Bawarchi", "Chitchor", "Guddi", "Abhimaan", "Anamika" and "Parichay".

He was also a regular in Rajesh Khanna's starrers like "Aap Ki Kasam", "Amar Deep", "Naukri", "Thodisi Bewafaii" and "Phir Wohi Raat".

Recently, he returned to face the studio lights after seven long years for TV Series 'Madhubala'

Akshay's Rowdy Rathore smashes records, collects Rs. 48.5 crore

Akshay Kumar has finally seen a solo hit post Singh Is Kinng (2008). In fact, Rowdy Rathore is Khiladi Kumar's biggest solo opening. The actor thanked his fans on Twitter: "I owe a HUGE thank you to my audience! You are the only reason behind the biggest opening weekend of my career! Love Rowdy."

Made in a budget of Rs. 45 crore, the film has already collected Rs. 48.5 crore in the opening weekend. Film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted: "#RowdyRathore rakes in Rs. 48.5 crore in 3 days."


"RowdyRathore Breakup:- Fri 15.1 cr, Sat 14.7 cr, Sun 18.5 cr +. Total: Rs. 48.5 cr + nett. Biggest non-holiday weekend. Fantabulous," he added.

He also pointed out that if only Friday to Sunday numbers are collated, Rowdy Rathore is a bigger opener than Agneepath. "#RowdyRathore has smashed previous records by a big margin. The film directed by Prabhu Deva is also the third biggest opener ever. "#RowdyRathore is the third biggest opener ever, after #Agneepath and #Bodyguard. Incidentally, all three films are remakes!" the trade expert wrote on his Twitter page.

"#RowdyRathore *India* Fri 15.10 cr nett. Biggest non-holiday Friday opener. O-U-T-S-T-A-N-D-I-N-G," he added.

Trade analyst Komal Nahta thinks the film has the potential to cross 100 crore mark: "Straight B-L-O-C-K-B-U-S-T-E-R! That's what Rowdy Rathore is!! Next 100-crore film? All chances!"

It's Akshay's widest release so far as it opened on 2,800 screens in the country. Sonakshi Sinha is the female lead in the film. Co-produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ronnie Screwvala, the film marked Akshay's return as an action hero.

WATCH OUT: Raaz 3 trailer released!

Bipasha Basu starrer Raaz 3 trailer is finally out. A few days back, the film's first looks was released and that created lot of buzz. The first official trailer of Raaz 3 is not only scary, but also very interesting.


The trailer shows the hot Bipasha Basu as the vamp in the film. Esha Gupta, who is playing an actress in the film will defeat Bipasha (also plays an actress) at an Award function. This was too hard a truth for superstar Bipasha to digest, hence, she decides to take revenge on Esha, through black magic. Emraan Hashmi plays the role of a director, who is in love with Esha Gupta. Next, what happens? The mystery needs to be unfolded.

Bipasha Basu surprises us in the trailer with her drop dead looks and improved acting skills. Esha Gupta too works as an added enticement. Sunny Leone starrer `Jism 2` gets `A` certificate

Mumbai: Erotic thriller `Jism 2` has been passed with an A-certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), says director Pooja Bhatt, who is glad that cuts were only made "upon my discretion".

"`A` certificate received for `Jism 2`. August 3 here we come! India just got itself an erotic thriller that truly reflects the times," tweeted Pooja.

"Let me also clarify to all my `well-wishers` that `Jism 2` has not been affected in the least by the cuts I made `upon my own discretion`," added the actress-turned-director.


`Jism 2` is a sequel to 2003 film "Jism". While the original was quite bold in its own way with Bipasha Basu in the lead, the forthcoming movie will see Indo-Canadian porn star Sunny Leone as the leading lady.

It promises to be a steamier affair, and an adult certification might be befitting for it.

`Jism 2` also features Randeep Hooda and Arunoday Singh.

Sherlyn Chopra might have done some B-grade movies, but for Playboy she's a Bollywood legend. In a write-up describing Sherlyn, the starlet has been tagged as a Bollywood legend in the accompanying pic. Sherlyn Chopra is the first Indian model to pose for Playboy. The starlet also posted a series of her nude pictures clicked during the photoshoot for Playboy magazine.

On sleeping with Hugh Hefner


It’s known to be an unsaid rule that all Playboy cover girls must share the bed with the porn magazine’s mogul, Hugh Hefner. But, our very own starlet Sherlyn Chopra, 28, says she did not sleep with the 86-year-old to land the jackpot deal.

“I did not sleep with Mr Hefner. No one at the (Playboy) mansion has till date made an indecent proposal to me. I love my naked skin. Felt quite comfortable displaying my nakedness … that is all,” says Chopra.

The Sherlyn cover will hit stands in December. “It is the first time that the magazine has executed as many as 15 concepts for a model. When people see me, they will go wow,” she says, undeterred by the backlash. “People back there could not believe that an Indian could do this!”

It all started when she got in touch with Hefner over email in May this year, and expressed her desire to be on the cover. “While most girls are first called for a test shoot, I should thank him for having faith in me by providing me the opportunity without an audition.”

Bollywood's first superstar Rajesh Khanna dies at 69

Mumbai: Superstar Rajesh Khanna passed away on Wednesday afternoon at his residence Aashirwad in Mumbai. He was 69. He had been battling prolonged illness for a long time and finally had to bow down to it.

The actor’s condition had been deteriorating since April when he stopped eating and had complained of weakness. He was admitted to Lilavati Hospital twice in the past month. The actor was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday but due to extreme weakness and low blood pressure, the actor was on ventilator since last night.

The actor, who shot to stardom in the 1960s, was the first 'superstar' of Indian cinema. He made his debut in 1966 in 'Aakhri Khat' after winning a talent hunt contest. At the peak of his career, he delivered 15 consecutive solo hits, a feat which no other actor has achieved so far.

He breathed his last in the presence of his wife Dimple Kapadia, daughters Rinkie and Twinkle, son-in-law Akshay Kumar, grand children and close relatives.

His funeral will take place at 11 am tomorrow in Mumbai.

Wrestler-actor Dara Singh dies at 84

Wrestler-turned-actor Dara Singh, who was battling for his life in a Mumbai hospital since the last four days, passed away on Thursday. He was 84.

Singh was shifted back home on Wednesday night after doctors said he has "less chance of recovery" due to significant damage to his
brain.

"He is already home. Please don't follow us. When he breathes his last, I'll let you know. There is no hope," his son Vindu Dara Singh told reporters.

He was admitted to Kokilaben Hospital in an emergency condition on July 7. He had suffered a cardiac arrest and since then he has been in the ICU.

The Commonwealth wrestling champion entered film industry in the fifties and is known for his roles in King Kong and Faulad. He was last seen in Imtiaz Ali's Jab We Met (2007) playing Kareena Kapoor's grandfather.

The veteran actor had played the character of Hanuman in Ramanand Sagar's epic television series Ramayan.

Pakistan bans Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger

 

MUMBAI: Salman Khan's 'Ek Tha Tiger' (ETT) has been banned by the Pakistan censor board. Though there is no official announcement from the board, but Pakistani distributor Atif Rashid told TOI, "I was just told the film cannot be released in Pakistan and there will be further discussion on it." ETT was to release with 35 prints in Pakistan on Eid.


Filmmaker Kabir Khan said, "It is sad a film that promotes peace and friendship between countries has fallen victim to politics." Trade pundits feel ETT had potential of doing a business of Rs 10 cr. Khan said, "It is not about the money loss but a film with good intention failed to release in Pakistan though places like Dubai and London which has a mixed population of Indians and Pakistanis have reacted positively to the film."

Nearly half a dozen films in the last five years have been banned in Pakistan. The last film to be banned in Pakistan was Saif Ali Khan's 'Agent Vinod' which also had mentions of Pakistan's intelliegence agency ISI. A Pakistani filmmaker said, "Any Indian film with mention of ISI will not get a release in Pakistan so filmmakers need to keep that in mind if they want to help that territory grow."

Trailer of Jism 2 rocks the fans world wide

True to her words, director Pooja Bhatt released the trailer of her movie ‘Jism 2’ in Twitter. The trailer is already generating a huge postive response from the online Hindi movie buffs. It seems the movie is all set to follow suit in the foot steps of it’s illustrious predecessor ‘Jism 1’. She was a centre of attraction in the show and soon caught the attention of vetrnan film maker Mahesh Bhatt. Soon, the offer to star in the movie ‘Jism 2’ was rolled out to her. Sunny Leone is well aware of the importance of the foot hold she has gained in the Bollywood industry. She will be acting along with co stars Arunoday Singh and Randeep Hooda. She is all set to give her best in the movie. In an interview the sex siren told “I have seen her (Bipasha) and she is gorgeous and amazing in the first movie. I hope I can meet up to her standard and not let her down in ‘Jism 2?’ I want to do a good job and I hope everybody likes the movie”. Bipasha is sure that ‘Jism 2’ will do good in the box office and she commented that “I don`t know her but (Mahesh) Bhatt saab always casts someone who suits the role. So I am sure she will do a good job.”

The Bhatt camp is happy with the job Sunny Leone has done and jubilant about the response the trailer of the movie is getting. Pooja decided to go ahead and launch all the promos, trailers and songs of the movie after the Indian censor board tagged an A certificate to the first trailer of ‘Jism 2’. A happy Pooja Twiited to the great responses to the trailer as “Going to bed rather ‘full’ with all your praise. Even though lingering is a seductive prospect, must retire. The sweat shop calls tomorrow!”
